My Best Photos of 2016

The Opal Range, Kananaskis, Alberta

Now that 2016 has come to a close, I have decided to pull together my ten best photos of the year. I've included my personal favorites but also those that my followers seemed to enjoy the most. There are two reasons for this post; (1) to participate in the Jim Goldstein Your Best Photos from 2016 blog project, and (2) to personally reflect on the year that was.

2016 started for me with a five week trip to Australia. Much of my trip I spent traveling on my own allowing me to dedicate as much time to photography as I could (in reality, whenever I travel with my girlfriend she is exceptionally patient). It was a fantastic trip going from the harsh outback to the Tasmanian rainforest with all the weird and funky wildlife in between.

After returning home, I launched 'Dean Foster Photography'. The immediate support I received (and still receive) blew me away. It's been a steep learning curve from dealing with domains to trying to regularly update content but it's been a ton of fun.

My biggest struggle has been making the time to get out and snap some shots. Those that know me, know that my work schedule can be last minute and hectic (particularly in the summer) which puts photography on the back burner. I hope in 2017 I am able to better balance work and hobby.

2016 was an awesome year for me and I need to thank everyone who has supported me. Each and every 'like' or 'follow' means more to me than anyone knows. In particular, I would like to thank my mom for constantly finding new subjects to shoot, my girlfriend for pushing me when I start to get lazy, my sister-in-law for designing my logo/website support and my aunt for always looking for new opportunities. All the best in 2017!
